Right now, you’re probably enjoying the beautiful winter weather here in Naples, very happy you’re not shoveling snow or bundling up to deal with the freezing cold temperatures up north. Your Florida home is everything you imagined when you decided to buy a second home. It’s your pride and joy, something you worked hard to afford.

Do you have a plan for how you’ll make sure it’s taken care of when you go back up north?

You need a housewatcher - a professional who checks up on your home while it’s vacant to keep an eye on things and alert you to any problems before they become expensive disasters.

What a Home Watch Company Does

What kind of things can you expect a housewatcher to do for you while you’re out of state during the warmer months?

  • Check the property and landscape for pests and problems with the sprinklers and lawn

  • Check outdoor light fixtures, roof, AC units, fence, and mailbox (if mail is still being delivered).

  • Check AC and humidification settings and adjust if necessary

  • Visually check for signs of water damage, mold and mildew

  • Flush toilets, run water in sinks, garbage disposal, tubs and showers

  • Check the hot water heater – it must be turned off at circuit breaker when water main is off

  • Check for insects, pests and rodents

  • Short cycle dishwasher

  • Check closets, pantry and storage cabinets

  • Check all windows and doors to make sure they are locked

  • Check refrigerator, freezers and wine coolers for proper temp and operation

  • Check circuit breaker panels

  • Check garage (including trash) and make sure door to garage is locked

  • Check the water level in the pool

  • Check screen doors, patios, and screening around the lanai or patio

Before the winter is over and you get ready to head home for the summer, make sure you find someone to keep an eye on your home while you’re gone. You’ll be able to relax knowing you’ve got professionals watching out for problems and when you come back for the next season, there will be less to worry about.
